As part of its 50th anniversary, the Oakland Museum is partnering with The Rainin Foundation for Open Spaces Symposium, a program bringing together artists from a range of practices to discuss opportunities and challenges of working in public spaces.
During this day-long event, gain insight into the work of designer and strategist De Nichols, whose work focuses on supporting changemakers nationwide to develop creative approaches to the social, civic, and racial justice issues. In her presentation, “Design Activism: Protest, Placekeeping, and Power Building,” she will share how she utilizes art and design to develop vision and strategy for public initiatives and projects and how artists can work more deeply with communities to visualize and activate progressive paths for a more equitable future.
