"Show U.S. Justice" (2020)
“Show Us Justice” is a billboard designed as part of the “I watch for good news. I work with folks to create good news” series of works in collaboration with The Luminary gallery and STLMADE campaign in St. Louis, MO. As a public declaration about the city’s sustained culture of activism, this billboard serves as a celebratory nod to the ways in which local organizers have influenced modern social movements across the United States since the 2014 Ferguson Uprising.
“Show U.S. Justice” expresses a play on words of how St. Louis has shown the U.S. what it looks like to fight for justice and win, while it also uses the language of its home state of Missouri as the “Show Me” state. In the scenes behind the three notes that compile this manifesto, a collaged scene of protestors crowd together holding various messages commonly seen in protests, including “Black Lives Matter” and “No Justice, No Peace.”
About the Collaboration

I watch for good news.
I work with folks to create good news.
-June Jordan
This isn’t an election project. This is a project for the world that has been here and whatever comes after. It is a celebration of St. Louis, a meditation on its fractures, and a reflection of its possibilities: it is a collaborative statement to our neighbors. In a moment of shared struggle and collective uncertainty - you know, 2020 - where do we look for good news? Or: how can we work together to create some good news?
“I watch for good news. I work with folks to create good news” is a billboard collaboration by The Luminary x STLMade featuring commissions popping up this week around the region from Collin Elliott, Jen Everett, De Nichols, PSA with Jessie Donovan, Brock Seals, Simiya Sudduth, and Work/Play.
