Video: De Nichols Presents "Artist as Catalyst" Presentation for the 2019 Young Collectors Contemporary
With a whirlwind of socio-political and cultural challenges emerging across the world, art and design are being used to address, disrupt, highlight, and respond to injustices and inequities in bolder ways than ever before. In this talk, De Nichols shares projects and interventions from her work as an organizer, social practice artist, designer, and social entrepreneur to illustrate ways art can be used to mobilize people for social good. Topics will include her arts activism in the Ferguson Uprising, her museum-based protests and impact following the 2016 Kelly Walker scandal, addressing racism and racial inequity in arts philanthropy, and approaches to creative and collective power-building.
